ActiveX Install Loop During Approvals

by Matt 2. September 2009 04:50

If you have not completed the installation of the Audio Note ActiveX control, you will be prompted to install it the add-in every time a note populates the approval area.  For example, if you have two-hundred notes that need approval, you will be prompted two-hundred times to install the add-in.  This leads to a loop of sorts that you will have to click OK two-hundred times before you can remedy the situation.  If you get stuck in this loop, the only solution is to manually end Internet Explorer's process via the task manager and then change your ActiveX settings to allow the installation to take place.  To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Right-click your Taskbar running along the bottom of your screen
  2. Left-click Task Manager to look at your running applications
  3. Click the Applications tab
  4. Click any instance of Internet Explorer in the list
  5. Click End Task

Once you have closed Internet Explorer, you need to change your security settings to allow the install to complete.  To do this, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click Tools and then Internet Options
  3. Click the Security and then click Custom
  4. Scroll down until you see the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section
  5. Find Download unsigned ActiveX controls
  6. Put the dot in Prompt radio button
  7. Click OK and then OK again
  8. Restart Internet Explorer

Now, go to Approvals section of CaseWorks and you will be prompted to install the Audio Note feature, but now you should be able to complete the installation.

Cannot Install ActiveX Controls

by Matt 2. September 2009 04:35

Some pages on CaseWorks web will prompt you to install an ActiveX control.  When you are prompted via Internet Explorer's Information Bar, you right-click the bar and left-click Install.  Sometimes, this will fail and you can enable the ability to install our ActiveX control by doing the following:

  1. Click Tools and then Internet Options
  2. Click the Security and then click Custom
  3. Scroll down until you see the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section
  4. Find Download unsigned ActiveX controls
  5. Put the dot in Prompt radio button
  6. Click OK and then OK again
  7. Restart Internet Explorer

Now, you should be able to right-click the Information Bar, select Install, and it will allow you to click Install for the installation dialog box.
